KPCW Mural // A Room With A View

Early this fall, KPCW became a construction site as work began on the long-awaited expansion. Their glassed-in, on-air studio perched above Swede Alley aka “the room with the view” became just the opposite as drywall went up surrounding the work space completely blocking the windows.

Everyone who worked in the studio or came in for interviews immediately noticed the difference but it took DJs 'Wake Up Wyatt' (Wyatt Pike) and 'The Saturday Silver Queen' (Peg Bodell) to do something to remedy the situation.

Peg and Wyatt took over the Saturday morning 7-10 slot when the beloved Classified Show was retired summer of 2019. “We've learned so much from each other,” explained Peg. “We feed off each other and it’s been a great start to the weekend, even if Wyatt isn't always fully awake.”

Realizing how claustrophobic the studio had become, when they had time to kill, Peg grabbed a pen and started sketching on the blank drywall. “Well, here's what we would be seeing,” she told Wyatt as she outlined the hillside, the buildings along Swede and Main Street. Peg brought in paints and other materials from home and Wyatt joined in the fun. Over the next couple of months first one view panel and then another were produced.

“The rumor was that Randy Barton created it,” laughed Peg, “but it was just Wyatt and me.”

The temporary walls on which Peg and Wyatt created their art will eventually come down but we hope the art will live on. You never know, the masterpieces just might show up in a future KPCW pledge drive!
