We are pleased to introduce Terzian Galleries as our October gallery feature! Our monthly blog series showcases all of our wonderful Park City galleries on a rotating basis.

Every month we tell the story of a local gallery and the gallerists and artists behind them. For this month’s spotlight we spoke with the Director of Terzian Galleries, Candy Baron. Terzian Galleries represents established and emerging artists with a contemporary spin. The gallery is located in historic Old Town Park City, Utah at 625 Main St. Founded by Karen Terzian  in 2004,The gallery prides itself in representing highly regarded artists from around the region.

Arts Council: Tell me a bit about Terzian Galleries

Candy Baron: Terzian Galleries is owned by Karen Terzian. We’ve just starting our 15th year. She’s been in this location for 5 years and she was at the top of Main St. for about ten years prior. She’s been in the art industry for over 25  years.

We have 35 artists that we represent here. A good influence from the Intermountain-West, although we feature national artists as well. We do have a good number of Utah artists.

AC: How often do you switch out exhibits?

CB: We switch depending on the  season. When it’s peak season, like winter,  we’ll try to switch out every three to four weeks.

AC: Who curates the exhibits? How do you decide which pieces to feature?

CB: Karen is the Curatorial Director of the gallery, and then we do work together as well.

We recently had five women in our invitational exhibition and two have stayed with us and you can see their work in the gallery today. Emily Fox King and Laura Hendrix.

One of our exhibitions for the upcoming winter season will feature of all of our artists celebrating our fifteen year anniversary.

AC: Do you have favorite pieces?

CB:  I can’t choose a favorite! But I do have to say Utah artist Justin Wheatley is one of my favorites to work with. A well as Rebecca Klundt and Sarah Peterson.

AC: What inspires you?

CB: Just being outside and hiking. I love fall, so this time of year is great.

AC: Why do you think art is important?

CB: To bring a little peace to the world. Art has the power to open people’s eyes. I come from a Museum background so education in the arts is very important to me. I sit here and see people learn about the art. It’s really fun and enlightening to tell them about the piece and watch them grow to appreciate it more and more. And hopefully they end up walking out the door with something that has become special to them. It really does brighten the world, and hopefully people can see that.
