Park City Gallery Spotlight // Summit Gallery

We are pleased to introduce the Summit Gallery as our January gallery feature! Our monthly blog series showcases all of our wonderful Park City galleries on a rotating basis.

Every month we tell the story of a local gallery and the gallerists and artists behind them. For this month’s spotlight we spoke with Megan McIntire of Summit Gallery at 675 Main St., in Park City.

Summit Gallery is a space where contemporary and traditional styles fuse to create an eclectic collection of Mountain West art. A trip to Summit Gallery ensures a world-class art buying experience enhanced by the authentic charm of Park City.

To learn more about Summit Gallery, here’s more from gallery owner, Megan McIntire.

Arts Council: Tell me a bit about Summit Gallery
Megan McIntire: We opened Summit Gallery just over 2 years ago, and before that I was a Gallery Director for Colby Larson for years. Our vision here at Summit Gallery is mountain to mountain contemporary. We pride ourselves on facilitating a meaningful and informative gallery experience for every collector. Whether you are looking to begin or expand your collection, our friendly staff will always offer exceptional service. Personalized consultations, professional installation and custom commissions are just some of the complimentary services available at Summit Gallery. Our carefully curated roster of distinguished artists boasts a refreshing selection of unique work. With original oil paintings, fine bronze sculptures, unique glass works and mixed media pieces, our diverse collection of high quality art aims to inspire.

AC: Tell me about the selection of artists that you feature in the gallery.

Megan McIntire: We currently feature 16 artists. We have 4 artists local to the area and the rest are from around the mountain west and even coast to coast. We try to select artists and their work that go together in perfect harmony that shows well together and doesn’t compete.

AC: Do you have a favorite piece in the space right now?

Megan McIntire: It’s like picking a favorite child! However I’d have to choose some of our local artists, Cynthia McLoughlin, Karen Urankar, Kathryn Ashcroft, and Owen Mortensen.

AC: Do you have any upcoming exhibits in the pipeline?

Megan McIntire: Last Friday Gallery Stroll is coming up this Friday and we are launching our newest exhibit, Elevation, which features five new works from local artist Cynthia McLoughlin.

We will also be having an event during Gallery Stroll this Friday, but we will be taking a lot of precautions. We’ll have COVID friendly treats, wrapped individually, and the exhibit launch will take place all weekend so people can spread out and choose to come at their convenience over the weekend.

AC:  Why do you think art is important?

Megan McIntire: Art is something that ties a thread though different communities and allows a person to experience things from different perspectives. Also art can be a form of connection which is especially important in this day and age with everything we’ve been going through.
