Park City Library's Action Book Club

Park City Library is combining the joy of reading, the power of literacy and social engagement with their new Action Book Club. It’s a win, win, win situation!

“Action Book Club is a great way for all ages to read about a particular topic and then take action around that topic,” explains Adult Services Librarian, Kate Mapp. “This is meant to drive conversation at home and amongst your neighbors, friends and family.”

The summer theme of “Come Together” begins in June and will focus on unity, equity and understanding.

The first step is to read a book to learn something about these topics, either from the library’s recommended reading list or one of your own choosing. You can find recommends for adults, teens, youth and children on their website. https://parkcitylibrary.org/action-book-club-come-together/

The second step is to take action. Once again you can rely on the library to supply you with an action kit, or an event to participate in or create an action of your own.

Between June and August offers action kits and events to encourage neighborhoods to come together

6/1: Seed Bombs Kit-Spread joy by making and planting a seed ball; a small cluster packed with dirt and wildflower seeds.

6/28: 4th of July Kit-This kit will help you decorate and celebrate this classic Park City holiday.

8/3: Citronella Candle Kit-Enjoy the last days of summer by decorating a mosquito/tea light holder. Give the light holder as a gift to a neighbor or someone in the community.

On July 17 at 11 am in the Reading Garden (East of the Library building), Mapp will lead a discussion on the Action Book Club theme “Come Together.” “Mindful Dialogue provides a safe environment to have discussions around a particular topic. The focus is on listening to one another rather than pushing a point or agenda,” she explains. The library is focusing on creating a dialogue around how the community can be more welcoming. Participants are expected to be present, engaged, and respectful.”
