Park City Museum’s 2021 Ornament
The Park City Museum’s annual holiday ornaments have long been a tradition for locals or anyone in search of a unique Park City memento.
In the past, the ornaments featured a specific historic building but since 2019, the focus has broadened to include one of our beautiful local wildflowers and perhaps tell more of a story along with the historic scene.
Local artist Peg Bodell has designed the last three ornaments and loves being able to commemorate stories along with the buildings. “The museum's 2021 ornament tells the story of the McPolin Dairy Farm but also reminds us of the distant ski resort that brought another industry into a fading farming and mining community. We were happy to stop for the twice daily "cow parade" across 224 because some how, that pause in our day, gave us just a little bit of ownership in this unique place.”
Peg’s personal collection of museum ornaments serve as more than decorations. They are time capsules of Park City history and a way to share that history with her family. “During my 40+ years in Park City I have a trunk full of stories to tell my family and friends that shouldn't be forgotten. I love the idea of my grandchildren decorating their Christmas tree with their children and telling them the ornaments’ stories of our life as they pull each ornament out of the box every year.”
Her goal is not only to keep memories alive for the Parkites who have lived here many years but also that the people moving here realize the rich history; people, places, and life they are inheriting.
“The ornament stories remind us of how the life--hardships and joys--of those people have made us who we are now.”
This year’s ornament is available at the museum store, only to members through November 7 and to the public on November 8.
