PCSC Arts Council to Host Project ABC Community Convening on Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access
The Park City Summit County Arts Council will hold its next Project ABC Community Convening in partnership with the Park City Community Foundation on Friday, February 14th from 9:30am - noon at the Christian Center of Park City at 1283 Deer Valley Drive. Light breakfast and coffee will be provided.
The idea of ‘Community Conveings’ emerged from the cultural planning process as a Strategic Recommendation. Each of our Community Convenings focus on specific Collective Priorities that were identified in the Cultural Plan, and are opportunities to learn from others and to discuss the role of arts and culture in Summit County as well as network with the arts and culture community. The Arts Council sees gathering and connecting the community as a critical part of what we do as an organization, and we’re excited for this next opportunity to meet with local arts and culture advocates, lovers, and leaders.
For those of you who need a refresher -- Project ABC: art, beauty, culture is a community wide cultural planning initiative that grew out of a desire to more effectively connect the arts and culture community and plan for the future. The Project ABC cultural plan lays out a roadmap for the future of Arts and Culture countywide. The Cultural Plan, which is available at projectabcsc.com, was completed in the spring of 2018 and is currently in the Implementation Oversight phase. This Community Convening coming up is one of the many ways the Arts Council is working to implement the plan.
This Community Convening will focus on FACES and PROGRAMMING Collective Priorities from the Project ABC Cultural Plan. We have guest speakers from Salt Lake City and Ogden coming to share their knowledge, projects, and ideas regarding both the role of art in furthering efforts of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access as well as how to better integrate these values into the arts.
Our guest speakers will be:
Nubia Peña, Director, Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs
Amir Jackson, Founder + Director, Nurture the Creative Mind
Shandra Benito, Executive Director, Art Access
We will also have a presentation from the Park City Community Foundation regarding common language around these topics and the social equity work they are doing in our community.
After our guest speakers present, we will host a discussion about how the ideas presented are relevant to and can be applied within Summit County.
We look forward to seeing you there. This event is free and open to the public. We hope you join us and bring along a friend or two. Anyone who shares an interest for arts and culture or social equity in Summit County are welcome to join us. If you’re interested, check out our Facebook Event for updates, and RSVP here.
