Support Summit County’s Local Artists This Holiday Season
Support Summit County’s local artists this holiday season.
Here’s why:
1. At the heart of arts and culture in Park City are our local creators, artists, and musicians. The Arts and Culture industry produces more than 4,000 jobs in Summit County. And, many of our most cherished traditions are cultivated, organized, and led by these individuals. There is no better way to thank artists than to bring their work into your house and your hearts.
2. This holiday season your support means more than ever before. Under more normal circumstances, average wages in Arts and Culture occupations and Arts and Culture industries in Summit County are well below the national average. According to the Art Council’s State of the Art Report, living and working as an artist in Summit County was difficult pre-pandemic. But in 2020, Utah’s cultural sector has lost over $55 million.
3. Many of us have experienced the tremendous power of art to connect us across social distances in 2020. A gift made from a local artist will mean more to friends and family, especially under these circumstances. With the cancelation of holiday bazaars and markets due to COVID-19, our community needs to get creative about supporting our artists!
Here’s how:
1. Visit Create PC. Create PC is an Arts Council project -- a pop-up artist studio and retail gallery space. Create PC has an online retail site, where local artists in residence are featured. Shop ceramics, jewelry, paintings, and sculpture. You’ll also find merchandise that features the arts council and partnerships with local restaurants. Finally, check out some awesome puzzles!
The possibilities for unique gift giving are endless. And you'll be able to see the face and story behind the art, and know that a small portion of proceeds go back to the Arts Council. Secure a gift for your family and friends today. Secure the future of arts and culture in Summit County for some time to come!
2. Try a downtown Park City holiday window walk! Stay safe and social distance, but still support the local art that decorates our town.
3. Visit the Kimball Arts Virtual Festival. In an interactive way, you can browse, shop, and support local businesses from the comfort of your home! Plus, look out for Art Talks content that is released regularly. Read more about the festival here.
4. The Arts Council regularly promotes local murals and sculptures! Take your loved ones for a holiday visit to these Park City public art staples. Learn more about our favorite spots here, and here, and here.
Choose to support local artists this year in your gift giving! You won’t regret it.
