Park City Summit County Art Council Appoints
Jocelyn Scudder Managing Director

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Park City, Utah (Oct. 23, 2018)

The Park City Summit County Board of Directors unanimously voted to appoint Jocelyn Scudder Managing Director of the Park City Summit County Art Council (Arts Council). The new position took effect immediately.

“Jocelyn is a great talent for the Arts Council and most importantly for our arts and culture community,” said Amy Trombetti, board chair for Park City Summit County Arts Council. “In the last months, she has seamlessly led the day-to-day operations in addition to her programming and marketing responsibilities. The board recognized her skill set, in-depth knowledge of our community, and her passion for the arts as a true asset for our mission.”

Scudder joined the Arts Council in 2017 as its community manager and had been serving as director of programs and engagement, a position she earned last summer. During her first year with the Arts Council she managed operations for signature events such as BRANDed PC, the Monster Drawing Rally and supported the organization’s national and local marketing and storytelling initiatives.

“While we conducted a search for a new executive director and received a strong response for the position, the board realized we already had right in front of us what we needed to lead the organization, and it was Jocelyn,” added Trombetti.

The end of August, Hadley Dynak resigned as executive director to return to the Bay Area with her family. In the interim, Scudder and the board of directors fulfilled her responsibilities.

Always looking to bridge the power of arts and culture with the community in impactful ways, Scudder lead the efforts in bringing renown street artist Bisco Smith for the Future is Now Creative Workshop last spring through her work with the Summit County Public Art Advisory Board. The program brought the New York-based artist together with youths age 11-17 years old from throughout the county to reflect on how to heal from recent community tragedies and capture their hopes for the future. Together they created the public art mural in Kimball Junction. The program was recognized by local and state leaders.

In addition, she recently cultivated a partnership with Basin Parks and Recreation to merge the community’s love of the outdoors and art with the experience-driven Art on the Trails event in September. The afternoon event had seven Utah artists performing dance, classical and folk music, as well as poetry readings along the McLeod Creek Trail. A pilot event, the successful program is now becoming an annual signature event.

“I am honored and humbled by the board’s decision,” said Scudder. “I truly enjoy what the Arts Council is accomplishing to promote, support and strengthen arts and culture county-wide. I’m excited to play a lead role in the next chapter of the organization.”

An East Coast native, she moved to Park City in 2013 to work for the Kimball Art Center in the Education Department. In a few short years she became the department manager, programming the Kimball’s year round classes and workshops for the community. Prior to moving west, Scudder worked for art galleries in Connecticut and New York City. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art from St. Lawrence University, nestled in the Adirondack mountains.

While assuming her new role, Scudder is producing the final programs for the year including Art Elevated, a fine arts and handcrafted gifts showcase, on Dec. 14-16 at the Swaner EcoCenter in Kimball Junction, and BRANDed PC, a gallery spotlight on local creative entrepreneurs and their products, on Dec. 18-22 at The Rockwell Room on Main Street in Park City. Both events celebrate talents from Summit County. The events are free and open to the public. Learn more at pcscarts.org.
