Brought to life by a family’s passion for the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Coffee and Teahouse is a family-owned and operated eatery and bookstore, where diners may browse through a curated collection of books and gift items while enjoying a hot cuppa’. They specialize in coffee, tea drinks, hot chocolates and specialty drinks, served alongside a fast, fresh breakfast and lunch menu served from 7am – 3pm daily. Breakfast favorites include the Buddha Bowl (Chai-infused oatmeal with dried fruits, caramelized walnuts, cinnamon and honey drizzle) and the Superfood Smoothie Bowl (A smoothie packed with blueberries, strawberries, almond milk and hemp seeds, served in a bowl and topped with oats, amaranth, quinoa, goji berries, fresh blueberries & bee pollen). 

Local’s Tip:  The 8-oz First Chair coconut crème breve is free on powder days (over 8 inches of snowfall) 

The Kids are Alright 

Give your little ones a taste of music with the weekly Music and Movement hour at Park City Library. Offered each Wednesday at 11am, it’s a lively hour where toddlers, preschoolers and their caregivers explore a variety of musical instruments, song, dance and related books. Kids and their adults are encouraged to get excited about music and make some noise! 

Luxe Library: Since the birth of Park City’s first library in 1888, the library has been a community hub with a central role in the lives of citizens and visitors. Following a nearly $10 million expansion, Park City debuted its newly renovated library in 2015, filled with 21st century technology: “smart” meeting rooms, new public computers, and an innovative YouCreate Lab with 3-D printers, sound booth, video recording equipment and more. On opening day, over a thousand Parkites lined up in a book brigade to pass books hand to hand, from the temporary quarters to the renewed facility, echoing a similar book brigade in 1982 for a previous library relocation. 

Lunch 

Enjoy the taste of Maine off-Main at Park City’s Freshies Lobster Co., winner of the coveted title, "World's Best Lobster Roll" at Down East Magazine's 2017 Lobster Roll Festival in Portland, Maine. In addition to their acclaimed lobster rolls, Freshies serves sandwiches, salads, and soups. Fresh lobster can be added to any menu item upon request. 

Back Story: Freshies owners, Ben and Lorin Smaha hail from New England and relocated to Park City for the skiing. But missing the fresh lobster they enjoyed back east, they opened a lobster roll stall at local farmers markets in 2009, expanded to a food truck in 2013, and most recently opened their sit-down café in 2016. Throughout the company’s growth, quality has been key to success. The company motto is “From Shore to Door in 24”, which means the lobster meat they serve today was swimming in the Atlantic Ocean yesterday. 

Afternoon Delight 

Whether you’ve spent the day shredding the slopes, strolling through galleries, or reading by the fire, you’re welcome to head over to Park City Mountain Resort to enjoy great free music! Offering 3 free music venues – Canyons Village, Park City Mountain, and Legends at Park City Mountain - there’s usually a live performance at 2:30pm each Friday and Saturday during ski season, and daily during peak times like Christmas week.   

Creative Recycling: In 2015 when Park City Mountain Resort replaced the old Motherlode Lift, they kept some of the chairs to support local nonprofits. Summit County artists were recruited to create 18 unique chair lift works of art which were auctioned off at a private event, raising nearly $100,000 for 18 nonprofit partners. 

Vail Resorts, owner of Park City Mountain Resort and 12 additional resorts worldwide, is committed to creating a promising future for generations. They donate over $8.6 million annually to over 250 nonprofit partners - including 30 community partners in Summit County, UT - focusing on youth programs and environmental initiatives. 

Stir Your Soul 

Ring in the New Year with Grammy and McArthur Genius Award winning vocalist Rhiannon Giddens at the Park City Institute’s Eccles Theater. “The company uses light, shadow, and the human body to create illusions, inspired by nature. One moment, you’ll think you’re seeing a giant lizard crawl across the stage. The next moment, those bodies appear as desert plant life,” describes company founder, Moses Pendleton.  

Did You Know? This season Park City Institute celebrates its 20th anniversary of bringing world-class performances and new ideas to the community by providing innovative experiences that entertain, educate and illuminate. This season opens with Robert Cray and continues with an energizing array of performers including MOMIX dance company, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, an evening with Monica Lewinsky, Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen, the Trinity Irish Dance Company, and more.

Dinner and a Show 

Just 16 miles outside of Park City, the DeJoria Center in Kamas is a world-class facility on 1,100 acres offering a variety of performances and events in a cutting-edge performance arena. In addition to concerts with seating for up to 1400, Paint Nights for up to 40 participants, and dance shows with performers from Dancing with the Stars, the center offers winter activities including sleigh rides, snowshoe tours, wine tastings and dog sledding.   

Dine on-site at State Road Tavern & Restaurant, featuring country inspired cuisine with craft cocktails, 20+ beers, and breath-taking views of the Kamas Valley. Menu highlights include Poblano Beer Cheese Fondue, the High Star Salad with apple, fennel, chevre and candied pecans, the State Road Burger with Pastrami, and the Half Rack of St. Louis Ribs from the custom-built smoker. 

Must See: The country music duo made up of singer-songwriters Chris Lucas and Preston Brust, Locash brings a sound that fuses modern country and classic heartland rock with an edgy vocal blend to the DeJoria Center on January 26 at 8pm. Revered as “one of Nashville’s hardest-working acts” (Rolling Stone) whose live show “has consistently been among the most energetic and entertaining in the country music genre” (Billboard), Locash broke out in 2015 with their GOLD-certified hit, “I Love This Life,” and then with the #1 smash, “I Know Somebody”.  This year they were nominated at the ACM Awards for New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year, the CMT Music Awards for Duo Video of the Year, and the CMA Awards for Vocal Duo of the Year.

SOUNDS OF THE SEASON 

The historic Egyptian Theatre Company on Main Street showcases a highly-anticipated holiday favorite – A Kurt Bestor Christmas, from December 22-25. This Emmy-award winning composer presents traditional holiday music for the whole family to enjoy!
