Alchemy School of Art: Our Creative Neighbors in Heber

When Shanoa Allowitz moved to Heber City two years ago, she recognized a gap in Arts & Culture programming. “I realized a need for a local art school that could offer a progressive, comprehensive education for people of all ages. With a degree in art education and 25 years of experience in the public school system I have dreamed of opening my own school and studio.” And thus Alchemy School of Art was born! Allowitz describes creating the school as “a labor of love, driven by my deep passion for fostering creativity and collaboration…Every experience along the way has shaped both my artistic voice and the curriculum we offer at Alchemy.”

Alchemy School of Art offers art therapy for adults and children, drawing lessons for adults and youth, and painting classes in many mediums. “I am an Encaustic Artist,” says Allowitz. “I love to teach others about the Encaustic Medium techniques. Recently I have been passionate about painting my own large format encaustic paintings.” She also offers creativity coaching and mentoring. “From the beginning, my goal has been to create a space where creativity thrives, not just for students, but for the entire community. By forming partnerships with local organizations and artists, we set out to make Alchemy a place for artistic exploration and education—a place where everyone can come together to create, learn, and grow.”

While Allowitz prioritizes inclusivity and creative community, she also uses a structured approach to fostering these ideals. “At Alchemy Art, our focus is on cultivating foundational skills that empower students to explore their unique artistic paths. We provide a comprehensive education through the elements and principles of art.  We believe in alchemy, the magical process of transformation and creation. Our approach is based on four core pillars: art production, art history, aesthetics, and art criticism. With this holistic education, students are equipped to create art, engage in thoughtful discussions about art, and offer constructive feedback to enhance their own work and that of others.”

Allowitz is dedicated to Heber’s artistic scene thriving, seeing her city as part of a larger creative ecosystem. She likes to visit nearby creative hubs, saying “I enjoy visiting the Park City Collective and the many galleries on main street.” At a short distance from Summit County destinations such as Park City, Francis, and Kamas, Alchemy School of Art is a creative neighbor who contributes to Northern Utah’s Arts & Culture scene.
