For the second year in a row, Canyons Village has an extra surprise in store for all residents and visitors: the Gondola Art Stroll! Whether you are there to shop, ski, or dine, as you wander the Village you can find 6 retired red pine gondolas, beautifully restored and outfitted to host installations by Utah artists. Each gondola also contains a hidden item as part of a scavenger hunt; you can find more information and some helpful clues here.

Of this year’s Gondola artists, 4 are returning for a second season. Anna Leigh Moore’s Dreaming for Utah installation uses the gold figurines and rainbow ribbons to inspire a feeling of hope for Utah’s Winter season future in the face of unique climate challenges. Sally & Jessica Neilson-Berg, the artist duo and married couple behind Luminous Arts, created Race to the Finish Line using as many recycled materials as possible to minimize their carbon footprint, and installed miniature fans to give a sense of movement to the scene. Brooke Smart & Jeremy Morgan made Ready to Fly as an homage to the documentary about the fight for women’s ski jumping to be included as an Olympic sport. Elizabeth Walsh’s piece, A Love of Maps and Utah, draws on her passion for cartography and excitement about the Olympics returning to Utah for 2034.
Luminous Arts’ Race to the Finish Line
This year also featured 2 new Gondola artists. Ashley Moore designed Winter Sports’ Mascots Throughout the Years to celebrate all the people, ideas, and critters in a children’s pop-up style illustration. Scout Maziarz also leaned into the celebratory theme, and his work Park City Celebration depicts the Main Street kickoff for the 2002 Utah Winter Olympics. “Working on the Gondola Stroll was a great experience for me. My artwork was a miniature cardboard Park City Main Street with fireworks and glowing snow. The creation and installation process was both challenging and rewarding, and I couldn't have done it without the help of my family. Since I'd never done something like this before, the act of just 'figuring it out' for so many feats encouraged my creative thinking skills and provided valuable work experience.”

As an emerging artist, Maziarz understands the importance of an arts scene that is inclusive and welcoming. “Opportunities like this are so crucial to the development of artists' careers. I especially appreciate them as someone who's pretty young and new to the art scene. It makes me feel like my community wants me to succeed. Public art in Summit County is so important, we are such a lively and colorful community and our collective spaces should reflect that.”
The Gondola Art Stroll will be in place through the 2025 ski season, so make sure to visit these unique, seasonal artworks while you can! You can find more information about the Gondolas and the artists here.
