Creative Process, Product and Potential: Kimball Art Center on Arts Education

As the new Education Director and Executive Director at the KAC, I have visited several of our educational partners over the past month, and without exception I was amazed with how much the community and other organizations respect the KAC and want to work us. The Park City area values arts education. At the Kimball we will work to nurture those relationships and play a leading role in the growth of the arts education in the Park City area.

For each of our classes we are working to develop the core educational values of the Kimball. These values will emphasize what the KAC believes is important and allow individual teachers room for pedagogical creativity. Some are examples are: We value first the process and then the product; and We want our students to take risks, try something new and explore variations. When we have completed this process, we will share the full list. Stay tuned!

On top the core values, we want to build a progressive curriculum that goes beyond one-time experiences. We want a curriculum that pushes students of all ages and abilities to follow a path of growth and reach new levels of skill and creativity.

To carry out this work, we will always work to hire and develop more great teachers. Great teachers are at the heart of powerful education. We will always want folks who inspire their students and connect with their students.

Winter/spring art class highlights include Drawing & Painting Fundamentals and Sip & Print, which will both be held at Old Town Cellars (wine available for purchase, 21+ only), Painting with Fire and Making Stackable Rings featuring new silversmithing teaching artist Dacia Hesiak, and of course, the staple favorite classes that our community enjoys year after year.
