KAC presents the Wasatch Back Student Art Show: Art and the Environment

Passionate pleas, oil spilled across a classic landscape, flourishing wildlife, and the imagination of hundreds of students are on display at Kimball Art Center. The Wasatch Back Student Art Show (WBSAS) is an annual favorite, and this year over 900 entries transformed our main gallery into a colorful, carefully mosaicked collection of student artwork.

Every piece came to us with a creative and personalized interpretation of this year’s theme — Art and the Environment. At Parley’s Park Elementary, for example, students created Andy Warhol-inspired labels for canned foods celebrating their school’s recycling-conscious ethos. The labels are wrapped around cans of food and at the end of this exhibition, the canned goods will be donated to the Christian Center’s food pantry.

There is something truly uplifting about each and every WBSAS exhibition. The students of our community create thought provoking works that show the raw emotion behind the creative process. They remind us that the creative process is a powerful outlet for expression and an instigator for change. It’s an opportunity for fledgling artists to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and ideals using imagination and experimentation.

Kimball Art Center is excited and proud to provide these young artists a chance to showcase their work in a professional gallery setting. The exhibition is featured in the Main Gallery from April 28 - May 27, with a free community opening on Friday, April 27 from 5-7pm. For more info, visit kimballartcenter.org.
