Park City Requests Proposals for Public Art in China Bridge Parking Structure
The China Bridge Parking Structure in historic downtown Park City has gone through extensive renovation recently. With these updates, PCMC has offered an exciting opportunity for artists to breathe some creativity into the newly renovated space.
Jenny Diersen, Special Event & Economic Development Program Manager at PCMC and City Staff Liaison to the Park City Public Art Advisory Board (PAAB) is managing this project. “PCMC Staff and PAAB are excited to incorporate art into an innovative parking facility that is designed to inspire new ways of thinking and traveling. The space is significant because it is the first experience for guests as they arrive to the historic downtown area. It demands interior art installations that are visually stunning, create a sense of place, and are complementary with the structure’s fresh aesthetic and state of the art parking and mode shift solutions” notes Diersen.
The goal of the project is to integrate public art in the garage to complement the structure’s wayfinding aesthetic and function. The artwork is also intended to evoke a sense of connectivity to the garage as a whole and the community, orientation to the town of Park City and the surrounding natural landscape, and the history of Park City and China Bridge. It is meant to reflect a place of community pride and creative expression.
There are four areas of interest for public art within the parking structure, including the north walls on each of the four levels. All mediums of art will be considered. Experience in creating large scale installations for public space is desired but not required. Total project budget is $40K. All artists or artist teams are encouraged to apply. After reviewing the proposals, PCMC will either award all walls to one artist(s)/teams or will award select walls to two separate artist(s)/teams.
The deadline submit proposals is Friday, May 4 at 5pm. Artists will be selected later this spring, with the intention of having the project complete by early November. To learn more and to apply, visit parkcity.org.
