Local Author Spotlight // Nora Wall
For Nora Wall, a 17 year old Junior at Park City High School, 2020 began with her becoming a twice-published author. Her new science fiction book 'Time Never Stops – Musings of the Last Man' is not a sequel to her first book but contains similar dystopian themes.
Nora rediscovered a short story she'd written when she was twelve and realized with some polish and strengthened vocabulary it had potential to be the basis of a book. “I wanted to philosophically expand on the concept and describe the thoughts and emotions of the Planet and Time to strengthen the story and characters.”
The book is a collection of short stories which are varied in genre, theme and plot but connected because all were written by the last man in the world, who dies believing he had failed as a writer having no audience to read his works. Nora explains, “'Time Never Stops' is structured so the narrative alternates between the Planet’s memories of the humans killed in its collision with the moon and the short stories written by the last man and remembered only by the Planet.”
The interconnected short stories gave Nora the freedom to write in different genres and explore new ideas for plots and characters. “Writing short stories has always been a passion of mine and I enjoyed the challenge of connecting them through one character.”
For many writers, finding time to write is a constant problem. Under the current quarantine situation does Nora have a third book in process? “I have enjoyed staying up late and writing more short stories, which I normally don’t have the opportunity to do because of school and volleyball. I have also devoted a lot of this time to editing my third novel that I finished writing in December.”
Nora's book 'Time Never Stops – Musings of the Last Man' is available on Amazon here.
Stay tuned for book #3!
