Online Art Classes // Recycled Art with EQL
Join local artists Emily Quinn Loughlin as she makes art out of recycled materials in our weekly video series, Recycled Art with EQL. She loves a good cardboard box and some paint! The thing is, you often have more art supplies laying around the house than you realize. And the possibilities of what you can do if you just have scissors, glue, and paint are vast!
Emily’s goal in making recycled art is to find a way to see a vision for her future and the future of the planet. Knowing that she has the choice to buy materials or re-use something that already served a purpose gives her a sense of empowerment.
The process diverts waste away from landfills (a larger percentage of recycling gets rejected than you would think!) while also challenging her to see undesirable materials as resources. People often say that an important part of having abundance is knowing how to make your money work for you. The project reorients that idea by asking how can your waste work for you?
This shift in how people look at waste is transformational in several ways. On an introspective level, it challenges the very idea of what is desirable. By looking at waste as a resource, you begin to see unlocked potential all around—including within yourself.
Creating art is a healing process that has no wrong answers. It is similar to physical exercise—no matter how you do it, it leads to better health outcomes. This is because creating something is a process by which she works out her emotional energy and put it into material. She recommend trying this at home!
