Like all local organizations, Park City Film, got creative to continue providing cinematic experiences for eager fans even with theatres closed. They launched ‘Virtual Cinema’ in April 2020, with screenings of the top independent films being released, complete with post-film panels and free screenings. According to Katy Wang, Executive Director, “It was a great way to stay connected to our community and help to support the Independent film ecosystem when movies theaters around the world were closed.”

During the summer of 2020 they launched the ‘Twilight Drive-in’ and it was a total success.

“We saw over 10,000 patrons last summer,” said Wang, “and brought the joy of cinema back to our community during a time when the escape and thrill of seeing movies as a collective was needed the most. We formed an incredible partnership with Dragonfli Media Technologies and the Utah Olympic Park, and I think we can safely claim to have created the most scenic Drive-in the West!”

Both of these delivery models proved very successful and worth continuing. The virtual cinema allows PC Film to be more expansive in their programming, as well as improve access by offering patrons the opportunity to watch films at convenient times. They are also actively working on a plan to re-open the Twilight Drive-in this summer in response to popular demand, so stay tuned for more details on that in the coming weeks.

On April 16, in-person screenings in the Santy will resume.  “We are thrilled to be able to re-open the Santy and welcome our community of film lovers back to the Santy,” says Wang. “The overwhelmingly positive response to our private film screenings, combined with the high vaccination rates and declining COVID numbers in Summit County all indicated to us that the time was right to resume our public screenings again. And as the Academy Awards have been delayed to April 25th this year, we're just in time to showcase the Best Picture contenders when we re-open - the highlight of the year for film lovers.”

Other upcoming in-person screenings include:

- Minari

 - Judas and the Black Messiah

- The Father

- The Truffle Hunters

All Cinema Safe guidelines will be enforced including the requirement for mask wearing by all patrons. Tickets for all in-person screenings must be purchased in advance due to limited capacity and COVID gathering restrictions.
