PCSC Arts Council to Host Arts Summit ‘20
The Park City Summit County Arts Council (“Arts Council”) will hold its Arts Summit ‘20 on Friday April 24th from 9am-noon at the Blair Education Center. This free event is an opportunity for the community to convene and celebrate progress in the arts and cultural sector. The Arts Council along with community partners will present about many of the existing projects happening in our community as a result of Project ABC, as well as outline the broad impact of Arts and Culture in Summit County.
“The Arts Council is an umbrella arts nonprofit organization that supports our creative sector at large. Our mission is to promote, support, and strengthen Arts and Culture countywide, and we do that through creative programming, innovative marketing, and advocacy activities. We are also designated by the State as the Local Arts Agency for Park City and Summit County," notes Jocelyn Scudder, Executive Director of the Arts Council.
It was a recommendation that surfaced out of Project ABC: art, beauty, culture that a regular summit be held for the community to gather and discuss the current state of the arts in Summit County. Project ABC is a community-wide cultural planning initiative that grew out of a desire to more effectively connect the arts and culture community and plan for the future. The Cultural Plan lays out a roadmap for the future of Arts and Culture countywide and was completed in the spring of 2018. The Arts Council has been working on implementing some of the Collective Priorities in the plan since 2019." The plan is available at projectabcsc.com.
“The community’s engagement during the planning phase of Project ABC was incredible and inspiring. As a result, we have a strong plan that helps to lay out the future of Arts and Culture in Summit County. The annual Arts Summit is a way for the community to stay engaged, build upon the growing momentum, reflect on our progress, celebrate our accomplishments, and further dream about the years ahead. Whether you are already actively engaged in Project ABC or are hearing of it for the first time we strongly encourage you to attend. This event is for anyone who cares about or appreciates the arts in Summit County,” says Jake McIntire lead consultant for Project ABC.
The Arts Summit ‘20 will give a platform to many community members and organizations who are helping move the needle on Project ABC recommendations and priorities. Local arts and culture leaders will present on new projects, ideas, newly formed associations, and initiatives. These presentations are a great example of how Project ABC continues to be a community leader and community-owned process.
Highlights to expect this year include an overview of the State of the Arts in 2020 relating to economic impact and public investment data, Arts Council updates and initiatives, stories from local Arts and Culture leaders about the recent work they have done, RAP Tax Reauthorization details presented by Summit County, Arts and Culture District updates by Park City Municipal and a guest presentation from Vicki Panella-Bournes, Director, Utah Division of Arts & Museums.
The Arts Council is excited to welcome arts and culture leaders, advocates, and enthusiasts from our community to join us at the Arts Summit ‘20. This event is free and open to the public. Anyone who shares an interest for arts and culture in Summit County is welcome to join us. Light breakfast and coffee will be served.
