Public Art Opportunities in Park City, UT this August
Calling all artists! There are multiple public art opportunities available this August with Park City Municipal ("PCMC").
Firstly, PCMC seeks proposals for public art for a Park City pedestrian and bicycle tunnel known as the McPolin/224 connector. Art on tunnel surfaces connects and reflects Park City’s community by creating vibrancy and enhancing walkability. The piece that is selected for the McPolin/224 connector should promote the history and cultural value of the area -- specifically the McPolin Farm.
They are asking for artists/artist teams to create site specific artwork that embodies the themes of community and connectivity for a pedestrian and bicycle tunnel. The proposals should discuss how artwork will enhance the user’s experience of this space. Experience in creating large scale installations for public space is desired but not required. Total project budget is $10k, and all proposals are due by Due by 5pm MST on Friday, August 24, 2018. Find the full RFP here.
Second, PCMC seeks proposals from an artist(s)/team that will create and build a structure that represents their dedication to water conservation and sustainability in distribution. The installation will be displayed in front of the new Creekside Water Treatment Plant which is frequented by a varied community. They expect 80% of the installation to be made with the upcycled materials which are being donated by Public Utilities Department. They prefer applicants to have experience in creating large scale installations for public spaces, but it is not required.
The RFP states that concept for this project was inspired by a growing mound of residential meters removed in the summer of 2017 for an upgrade, and were bound for the metal scrapper. The purpose of the project is to reuse the materials from the meter upgrade and other materials saved from distribution. Materials include wooden piping, yokes, wheels, and pieces of steel pipe. Repurposing these materials represents PCMC’s dedication to moving towards sustainability, with the added benefit of educating the public about their historic infrastructure in water distribution. They also note that hiring a local artist to represent PCMC in a creative vivid image of conservation will add interest among the community.
The total project budget for the Creekside Water Treatment Plant is $13k, and complete submissions are due by 5pm MST on Friday, August 31, 2018. Production and installation will take place this fall, with an expected completion date in November. Find the full RFP here.
