Pump Boys and Dinettes Returns to Egyptian Theatre
Buffalo Theatre Company, based in Cedar City, UT, is brand new and will be bringing their inaugural production of Pump Boys and Dinettes to the historic Egyptian Theatre in Park City, May 19-29.
Peter Sham, Kirsten Sham, both Producing Artistic Directors and Michael Harvey, Set and Light Designer have collaborated for fourteen years personally and professionally and have always enjoyed each other’s company, making art and making each other laugh.
“In so many areas of our professional life we've encountered many who's first answer to a creative question is ‘no’. , explains Sham. “We believe in "yes," and get wildly excited about how we can make our creative thoughts and dreams happen on stage and in life. We, even after so many years in the craft, still get excited about the work. I don't think that will ever change. We are still a bunch of playful kids having a blast together.”
Their goal is to do exactly what their mission statement says; ‘To create authentic, rousing and thought-provoking stories in a caring and inclusive environment’. “We believe collaboration is infectious and in this turbulent, post-pandemic era, Buffalo Theatre Company was founded to be a place where people may gather together to unite in stories which celebrate the human spirit with humor, compassion, and responsibility.”
At present BTC does not operate out of a home theatre. Instead, their plan is to develop projects and bring their magic to places all over the country beginning right here in Park City.
“Pump Boys is being made especially for my favorite theatre space in the state, The Egyptian in Park City,” says Sham. “There is something about the Egyptian that reminds me of the best theatres in New York, where I grew up. It's a real space, it has a personality, it's not a utilitarian empty space, it's a living breathing thing with a rich history. When you walk backstage and play on stage, you know great things, great artists, great people have played and had success here. It has that wonderful smell and feel of the best off-Broadway theatres I've ever played. It also has the best staff of caring professionals and artists I have ever worked with in Utah. Period.”
Sham’s family loves Park City. They began visiting when he starred as Max Prince in the Neil Simon Festival's production of Neil Simon's Laughter on the 23rd Floor and have had a love affair with Park City ever since. “Like the Egyptian, Park City itself has a personality all its own. Great food, great shops, great art, it reminds us of some of the wonderful places we've fallen in love with over the years, like New Hope, PA, or Clinton, NJ, it has a charm you can't describe.”
