Summer Highlights at the Egyptian Theatre
Summer always seems to be the busiest time of year, simply because there is so much to do, and so little time to do it. This seems to be especially true in a mountain town where there are many fun activities and opportunities. A must-have for your summer calendar this season is a show at the Egyptian Theatre. The historic jewel on Park City’s Main Street has a full schedule with entirely new shows for the community to enjoy.
Randy Barton, Manager and Director of the Egyptian Theatre, speaks to the selection of shows running this summer. “We constantly survey our patrons and monitor what acts are best received. We try to offer a wide variety – theatre, concerts, comedy and special events.” There truly is something for everyone. Barton says he is excited for all of the upcoming shows, but says that “Tommy the Rock Opera and The Edgar Winter Band are great choices.”
The Who’s Tommy - the Musical will run July 6 - July 29. Shows are at 8pm, and 6pm on Sundays. Based on the iconic 1969 rock concept album, The Who's Tommy is an exhilarating story of hope, healing and the human spirit. The story of the pinball-playing, deaf, dumb and blind boy who triumphs over his adversities has inspired, amazed and puzzled audiences for more than 40 years. This five-time Tony Award-winning musical is a high-energy, one-of-a-kind theatrical event.
Edgar Winter Band will be at the Egyptian August 9-11. All shows start at 8pm. With numerous hits such as Frankenstein and Free Ride, Edgar Winter has rave reviews for his live shows. The inventive musician came up with the keyboard body strap - an innovation that allows him the freedom to move around the stage during his high-energy multi-instrument performances. His music can be heard in multiple TV projects including The Simpsons, Wayne's World, Air America, Wag The Dog, Encino Man, and My Cousin Vinny.
Barton also expresses his gratitude to those who make these shows possible, saying “we could not offer what we do without great support from our business partners and our Pharaoh Club.” For information on becoming a member of the Pharaoh Club, click here.
