Summit Community Gardens Invites You to Cena en el Jardin
We’re thrilled to be partnering with Summit Community Gardens as part of our lead up programming to the 2023 Latino Arts Festival for Cena en el Jardin! Join us for a family friendly night filled with delicious cuisine, music, and art!
Set for Thursday, June 15th from 5-7pm, Cena en el Jardin or Dinner in the Garden will showcase Latino flavors. Enjoy mouthwatering tacos, craft cocktails provided by Don Julio and end the night with an array of sweet treats provided by Prime Corn including Alegrias (amaranth bar sweetened with honey), Palanqueta (peanuts bar sweetened with caramel), chia seeds pudding with coconut and cacao, and toasted lima beans covered with chili powder.
Pedrinho Souza will be filling the garden with his Bossa Nova music while we enjoy a beautiful evening connecting with one another through food, music & art.
Partnering with local nonprofits and vendors is highly important to us as we aim to come together and celebrate the multiple cultures that create and sustain the truly unique community we live in.
When asked about the event Summit Community Gardens’ Executive Director Sloane Johnson commented: “We are incredibly grateful for the support and participation in this event, as it has a profound impact on our organization and the diverse community we serve.”
The proceeds from your ticket purchase will be directed towards several important initiatives.
A significant portion will go towards supporting the upcoming La Milpa celebrations. Run by Arte de Mexico en Utah, these programs bring our community together to learn about the history and cultural significance of corn to the indigenous peoples of the Americas. You’ll get a small peek into this rich history at the Cena as Wendy from Prime Corn talks about the importance of seeds to the Pre-Colombian Mexican diet, how they’re eaten as an alternative source of protein, and how available resources are used in the Milpa, like flowers, leaves, stems, roots, seeds, etc.
Additionally, contributions will be used to provide scholarships for Latino families to join Summit Community Garden’s kids' camps, ensuring that children from all backgrounds have the opportunity to engage with nature, learn about gardening, and develop a profound appreciation for healthy living and environmental stewardship. “By supporting our events and initiatives, you directly contribute to the enrichment of our the Latino community, enabling us to provide meaningful experiences, education, and resources that enhance the well-being of our diverse population." commented Johnson.
