Youth Filmmakers Invited to Break Boundaries for the 2019 Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Champs

Breaking Boundaries Youth Film Contest

Calling all youth filmmakers in Summit, Wasatch, and Salt Lake Counties! This is an opportunity that you will not want to miss.

The Park City Summit County Arts Council, the Park City Film Series and U.S. Ski & Snowboard have come together to present the Breaking Boundaries // 2019 Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Champs Youth Film Contest. The Call is targeted towards young filmmakers (21 and under) to tell stories about breaking boundaries, wherever that may apply in their lives. In the world of elite competitive snowboarding, freestyle and freeskiing, athletes challenge themselves to push the boundaries of creativity and difficulty to be the best in the world in these sports. The best in the world challenge the expectations of what is possible and break boundaries to achieve their dreams whenever they can.

"This is a great chance for aspiring filmmakers, or frankly anyone with a story to tell and the talent to put that story into film, to help us put the 2019 Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Champs on the map and to be an important part of the exciting events that are coming to Park City, Deer Valley and Solitude in February 2019.” said Calum Clark, Chief Of Events at U.S. Ski & Snowboard Chairperson of the 2019 World Championships Organizing Committee.

Local youth filmmakers are being asked to tell their boundary breaking stories in a short film format. Films do not necessarily need to be about skiing or snowboarding or competitive sport, but rather stories that are inspiring for the community and the athletes of the 2019 World Championships.

For Tom Webb, Director of Marketing and Communications at U.S. Ski & Snowboard, the contest is a perfect fit for our creative and active community. “Park City has an incredibly rich history in film, and such close ties to the movie industry, it is the perfect way to link our heritage and ties to the film world and the world class events coming to Park City in 2019. Because of those roots to the movie world, we have a very talented pool of filmmakers in our region, so it is a natural idea to harness that group of creative people and have them tell great stories that showcase the concept of Breaking Boundaries, something the athletes who compete in snowboard, freeski and freestyle competition do constantly.”

Winners will not only cash in, but will also reap the benefits of some money can’t buy experiences. The winner of the contest will win $2,500 cash and 1 Month exclusive experience with U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s content department for the 2019 World Championships working with both their in-house content team as well as their host broadcaster feature team capturing behind the scenes stories of the Event. They will also receive Media/Broadcast accreditation for the event including lift access and some swag. The runner up will get $500 cash and 2 VIP tickets for up to 4 event competition finals for the Championships.
