Park City High School Theater on the Rise

Park City is known for it’s many world class opportunities it has to offer. It’s evident by the diverse array of languages one can hear while walking down Main Street that people come from all corners of the world to get a taste of our small mountain town. Many people associate Park City with beautiful mountains, cozy lodges, an amazing variety of outdoor recreation throughout all four seasons, and great art galleries. In addition to all of that, Rick Kimball, the Director of the Park City High School Theater Program, has been working to put Park City on the map for something else.

Rick’s vision for the theatre program at Park City High is to make it a program which people across the country will be drawn to. He notes “eventually, I want to create an Improv class and a Musical Theater class so that students can grow, and so that I can create new opportunities and challenges within the theater program. I think the students in Park City are both talented and hungry for opportunities. I just feel privileged to be there in the moments that become long lasting memories.”

In his year and half tenure, Rick and his team at the Park City High School have made great strides in reaching this goal. They have predominated for about eight awards at the Utah High School Musical Theater Awards from last years production of The Addams Family. They are also currently being considered for the honor of performing at the awards ceremony at the new Eccles Theater in Salt Lake City in May. Their next big production coming in April is The Crucible. In his words, “you NEED to see this production!” In May, Park City High will be teaming up with Treasure Mountain Junior High for a production of The Curious Savage.

With many productions, competitions and events filling in the calendar, Rick and his talented students are making an impression and putting Park City on the map for excellence in theater. Keep an eye out for what they will do going forward!
