Winter Arts Showcase

Experience unique artwork and handcrafted artisanal goods from local artists at the annual Winter Arts Showcase, produced by the Arts Council of Park CIty & Summit County, on Friday March 18th from 6-9pm and Saturday and Sunday March 19th & 20th form 11am-6pm at Utah Film Studios in Park City. This year’s Winter Arts Showcase features 20 Utah artist booths, selling their creative endeavors including paintings, photographs, jewelry, ceramics, fabric, textiles and sculpture. Some of the artists will also perform demonstrations over the two-day event to give people a glimpse into their creative process. And new this year, the Winter Arts Showcase will be presented in collaboration with the local nonprofit Voterize and their Art 4 Action fundraising event. Alf Engen Ski Museum Adds New Exhibits

Summit County Traveling Art Exhibit at the Kamas Library Now through Feb. 27th

I chose these pieces from the Summit County art collection because they initially stood out to me during my first walk through at the Coalville Courthouse where the collection permanently lives. The included pieces individually captivated my attention and called me to look closer or think harder at what exactly I was looking at, not because I couldn't tell what the subject matter was but more of where the subject matter was taking me.

Request for Qualifications // Historic Mural in Hoytsville

Historical Mural Artwork in Hoytsville, Utah Celebrating and honoring history, heritage, and culture of Hoytsville and Summit County, UT. The Summit County Public Art Advisory Board (“SCPAAB”) is seeking qualified artists to execute a highly creative two-dimensional mural artwork to be installed on the exterior of the Public Works Building in Hoytsville. The surface material of the building is concrete and brick, and the design should cover at least one-third of the 364’x11’ wall (approximately 121’x11’), with some flexibility based on concept design after community interviews and mural design development. Included in the process will be a “listening tour” — interviews and meetings with Hoytsville residents, local historians, and Indigenous Tribal members. The Mural process may also be documented with photos and video, so applicants should be willing to consent to documentation.

Local Author Feature // Joe Totten

For years, Joe Totten, utilized his writing skills during his advertising career and most recently, to create his debut novel, The Law of Capture. Joe and his family moved to Park City in 1996. He eventually joined a writer’s group and got more serious about his personal writing projects. In 2016, while the book was still in process, he won the State of Utah's Writing Contest for his short story “The Starling Killers”.

Park City Museum is host to a fantastic traveling exhibit “Black and White in Black and White: Images of Dignity, Hope, and Diversity in America”. The exhibit is made up of powerful photographs taken by African American photographer John Johnson between 1910 and 1925. Johnson had no studio and so he used the natural environment around him, including his own Lincoln, Nebraska neighborhood.
