While you might not have come here solely to dine, you’re gonna have to eat, so make it count! Here are some insights into the great gustatory offerings in the Park City area – from haute cuisine to locals’ favorites off the beaten path.

Savor the Summit

Park City kicks off summer with a not-so-average dinner party known as Savor the Summit. On Saturday, June 16 at 6:00pm, more than 20 of Park City’s best restaurants will serve their culinary specialties to diners – outdoors, in the middle of downtown’s charming Main Street. Join with locals and visitors alike in celebrating great food in a fun setting, while enjoying one of Utah’s famous mountain sunsets. While you eat, enjoy live music, or just head to the High West Spirits Garden, which opens at 5:00pm and features local musicians.

Silver is better than gold

Heralded as a local’s secret, Silver Star Café actually has received some national attention. While it’s a beloved ski-in/ski-out spot right at the base of a chair lift, we especially love Silver Star Café in the summer months. Order outside on the wraparound patio and plaza and soak in 360-degree vistas. You really can’t beat the views of wild-flower covered mountains, a pristine golf course, and a charming town offered from the patio at Silver Star.

The menu features “elevated, contemporary, from-scratch regional foods and cultural flavors.” Like many other publications, USA Today called it “Park City’s Best-Kept Dining Secret” and the locals agree. Lunch is offered Monday through Friday, brunch Saturday and Sunday, and dinner nightly.

Star Tip: They don’t take lunch or brunch reservations, but dinner recommendations are strongly recommended. It’s a pretty small space, and it fills up fast. If you can, make a reservation for a Thursday, Friday or Saturday evening. Silver Star Café hosts a live music dinner show on those nights featuring local and national artists.

Farm Fresh & Fun

Summer in the mountains is full of fresh of air… and fresh food. At the Farmer’s Market, you can enjoy fresh, organic, local produce as well as fresh breads and other foods. You can even browse the arts and crafts vendors to discover local artisans. The Farmer’s Market has a new location this year: by the Silver King Resort parking lot. Head there every Wednesday from 12 to 5 pm starting June 13! Rain or shine, it’s a tasty way to spend an afternoon.

Scoop it up: The Farmer’s Market and Park Silly Sunday Market are great places to find a homemade treat, like a hand-packed quart of Wasatch Creamery ice cream. This local operation sells artisan flavors of creamy, handmade ice cream. Plus, Wasatch Creamery only uses clean, basic ingredients (milk, cream, sugar, and eggs) so you can feel good about indulging! Choose from over 40 flavors – everything from classics like chocolate and strawberry to more unique options like lime or basil.

Western Whiskey

Before High West opened their doors in 2006, there hadn’t been a legal distillery in Utah since 1870. Though the saloon in downtown Park City is famous for its food and drink, we also recommend checking out the High West Distillery in Wanship, just east of Park City. At this classically western ranch establishment, you can take a tour of the distillery operation and learn about the whiskey-making process. High West believes that true appreciation comes through education, and their tour is one-part instruction, one-part history lesson.  After the tour, enjoy a chance to taste some of High West’s famous whiskeys!

Small town, big taste

From 11am to 4pm Monday through Friday, Denise’s Home Plate in Coalville cooks up the homemade meals of your dreams. Call ahead for the daily specials, and dig into menu items like salads, burgers, and soups – all homemade. Patrons love the signature homemade buttery rolls and you’ll have a hard time eating just one. Denise’s peach pies are the stuff of legend, so make sure to add a slice (or two!) to your order. It’s a small, downhome place where everyone is welcome – and most keep coming back for more.

There’s just nothing like a homemade meal, especially when you’re on vacation and someone else is doing the cooking.

Fine On-Mountain Dining

Stein Eriksen was a pillar in the ski community, and the Stein Eriksen Lodge, named after the father of freestyle skiing is just as famous to locals. The 4-star restaurant, Glitretind, has a luxurious atmosphere and gourmet menu to bring your mountain experience to the next level. Take advantage of outdoor seating and bask in stunning views of the surrounding Deer Valley Resort.

Stein Eriksen hailed from Norway, and the restaurant reflects that heritage. You’ll notice Norwegian décor and beautiful fireplaces evoking a classic alpine setting. Plus, the very artwork memorializes the skier with sculptures of Stein throughout the lodge’s property.

Glitretind serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, as well as a Sunday brunch. Dinner reservations are highly recommended.

Old-fashioned trail snacks

In beautiful, rural Kamas, you’ll find the Samak Smoke House and Country Store. A trip to the Uintas isn’t complete without trying some of their famous smoked goods. A favorite stop for hikers, bikers and campers, Samak is known for its fresh, old-fashioned smoked jerky, smoked meat, cheese and kitchen fresh snack foods. They never use harmful preservatives or additives and your snacks are always hand-cut with personal attention.

Summer Special: From Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend, Samak hosts a Summer BBQ on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. From 5-8pm, head to the lawn for a classic cookout and a friendly, casual summer evening. Enjoy cherry-wood smoked Cheddar ½-pound burgers and organic fries. Plus, you can stock up on some smoked turkey or beef jerky for the road.

Mountain Olive Oil

If you think all olive oils are created equal, head over to Mountain Town Olive Oil Company and they’ll set you straight. This gourmet oil & vinegar store has more than 40 different flavors of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and aged Balsamic Vinegars for customers to discover. Try different combinations like Blood Orange Olive Oil and Cranberry Pear Balsamic and get cooking inspiration. You can also head home with gourmet herbs, spices, and foods such as pasta sauce, jam, and soups.

It’s a unique type of food experience that leaves you with a new toolkit of flavors to use at home.

Oil & Vinegar Junction: Treat your party to a gourmet tasting experience at Oil & Vinegar Junction in Park City. At Olive & Vinegar Junction, you can taste specialty oils, vinegars, and spices. Get cooking ideas (blood orange olive oil brownies, for example) and recipe hacks (caramel and chocolate vinegar over dessert!) and shop for fine ingredients to take home. You can even reserve the store for a private tasting.

Fine dining, to go

Riverhorse on Main, a top-rated fine dining establishment has a new hangout: Riverhorse Provisions. This specialty market, deli, and coffee shop features the culinary excellence of its namesake restaurant – for you to take on the go. Order a variety of gourmet dishes, soups and juices – all without taking the time for sit-down service. You can even pick up an incredible meal that you can cook yourself in less than 30 minutes. Head to the top of Main Street to experience this new way to go gourmet.
