Celebrating Women Vibrant and Equal 2020
The Utah Women Artists Exhibition, entitled, “Celebrating Women Vibrant and Equal 2020” is truly an inspiring display of visual art. The physical exhibition, which was set to be held at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center, was cancelled due to Covid-19. Still, the exhibition has adapted a beautiful virtual format, created by West Valley City Arts. Check out the exhibition here.
It’s really worth checking out this exhibition from the comfort of your own home! To accompany the exhibit, each artist has written a statement about their work that is featured alongside their submission. The blurbs tell beautiful stories including prayers for peace in remembrance of those lives lost in the bombing of Hiroshima (Lily Harvey — Prayers for Peace), of the human fascination of flowers (Emily Fox King — Time Immemorial), the Tongan lullaby that represents the relationship between mother and child (Rebecca Johnson — Mohe a Pepe, More a Tama), and others. These statements elevate the virtual experience, and will make your scrolling through the website feel like a traveler's journey.
In all, the Exhibition features the 75 pieces of art selected by the Exhibition Juror, Susan Anderson, from the more than 200 pieces submitted by Utah women artists through ArtCall.
The Arts Council also wants to recognize several members of the Park City Professional Artists Association who are featured in the exhibit including Karen Millar Kendall, Kody Bundy, and Kris Hanaman.
Marilyn Shearer (Exhibition Chair), and Brenda Clausen and Clair Turner (UWAE Trustees) write, “The Covid-19 pandemic forced us to make changes and learn to adapt to new norms. Technology has made it possible to enjoy art in new ways. We are extremely thankful for Melanie Budge of West Valley City Arts and Michael Christensen of the Utah Cultural Celebration center who made it happen.”
