Whether you’re an experienced craftsperson on the Martha Stewart level, or simply one who appreciates the handiwork of those who create beauty, here are some ideas for a day filled with creative endeavors in the Park City-Summit County community.
Kidcraft
For your little makers, you can’t miss the Kamas branch of the Summit County Library. On Thursday afternoons from 3:30-4:30, aspiring architects of all ages can drop in for the Lego Builder’s Club. Legos are provided, imagination required.
The library also hosts crafternoons on Fridays from 2:30-4:30pm for elementary school age kids. Stop by to make a craft and enjoy other fun activities. Oh, and of course snacks are provided to fuel that creativity.
For the Grownups The Kamas branch has a great creative option for older crafters too. On every second Saturday of the month, you can join the Art Drop-in Class at 10am – 2pm. Bring your own materials (easels, drop cloths, portable tables, etc.) and get some guided instruction to improve your sketching, drawing and painting skills. No matter what level you’re at, it’s a great opportunity to improve and practice. Don’t forget to pack a lunch!

Crafty like Sunday morning
…and afternoon. The Park Silly Sunday Market runs from 10am to 5pm and is a fun stop for any Sunday. Park City’s Main Street transforms into a huge block party surrounded by one-of-a-kind vendors and artisans. Makers of all kinds have their goods for sale, so check out everything from handcrafted jewelry to original ceramic pieces. Plus, there’s live music and great food vendors to round out the block party vibe.
The Silly Market runs every Sunday from June 2 to September 22, except for a couple of Sundays in August. It’s free to get in, but be aware that some vendors only accept cash. Consider taking the bus to Main Street – it’s free and you don’t have to worry about parking. Or, ride a bike and take advantage of the free bike valet.
Get Chiseled
No, we’re not talking about hitting the gym. The Chisel and Stone Workshop is a Park City stone carving experience anyone can appreciate. You can book a 1-2 hour sculpture lesson where you’ll learn how to shape local Utah alabaster into a unique keepsake you made on your own. You can book a one-on-one lesson or set up a group session. Park City has great weather and the workshop is extremely portable, so we recommend setting the lesson up outside at a park or picnic spot. Carving lessons outside – could it get more poetic?
Expert Knowledge Matty Lawler started the Chisel and Stone Workshop when he decided to bring his passion for stone carving to the mountains of Park City. As a teenager, he had the opportunity to live in Italy and take stone sculpture lessons. Several times a week, Matty went to a countryside villa and learned the art of carving marble. When he moved to Park City, he realized the local alabaster made excellent carving material and he decided to help others learn the skill that brings him so much joy.
Main Street Style
Park City isn’t just another resort town and the guys at Motherlode think the local apparel should reflect the town’s unique personality. Jesse Santaularia started Motherlode in his garage as a way to offer unique Park City t-shirts and has since become a proud contributor to the local business community. Visit his shop to check out custom apparel featuring mountain graphics, funny sayings, and homages to local passions like dogs and skiing. Who says a souvenir t-shirt has to be lame?
Personalize it. Motherlode also offers custom printing so you can create quality apparel just for your group. They take orders for as few as 10 shirts and most t-shirt orders average only $6-$10 per shirt. If you’re traveling as a group, this is a cool way to commemorate your trip – and support a talented local business.
Flower Power
Flowers by You isn’t your run-of-the-mill floral shop. It’s a floral and terrarium bar. Which means you can not only get great floral arrangements, fresh flowers, and all your typical plant needs, but you can also learn to create those beauties yourself. Flowers by You offers classes on floral arranging, DIY terrarium building and even creating floral jewelry. When did gardening get so chic?
A popular experience for groups or families is their class on creating terrariums. The professionals walk you through the whole process and help you choose your container, plants and succulents, sand, shells and other decorations. You come out with a unique experience and a cool (not to mention low-maintenance) decoration. Call ahead (435-640-8968) to schedule your class, or drop by the shop to browse from 2pm to 7pm daily.
Ancient art meets modern life
Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging – but it’s way more than playing with pretty blooms. It’s all about developing a dialogue between the human heart and nature and is a beautiful means of self-expression. If you never knew florals had so much power, Petal + Clay can really open your eyes. The Park City business offers group classes and scheduled workshops on Ibekana which include a lecture, demonstration and hands-on practice. Don’t worry, Japanese tea and snacks are part of the curriculum! Petal + Clay also has handcrafted ceramic vases for sale to complement your carefully curated florals.
Meet the Maker Petal + Clay is the dream of Park City local Lara Chho. Lara’s love of ceramics led her to Japan where she lived for 15 years. While there she discovered Ikebana and fell in love with the discipline. She studied the art for 8 years and became a certified Ikebana teacher through the Sogetsu School in Tokyo. She relocated to Park City in 2014 and has been enjoying the opportunity to bring Ibekana to another beautiful community.
The Knitty Gritty
If knitting has ever been on your bucket list, or you already are an experienced knitter, then pack your project and head to ARTique in Kamas. Every month, the locally owned art gallery and gift shop hosts a free afternoon knitting session at the gallery. The facilitator is Amber Moore-Barcus of local business Dahlia Mist, which specializes in arts and holistic healing. Check ARTique’s Facebook for the knitting events.
ARTique is a co-op of local artists displaying and selling handmade goods such as ceramics, fiber art, glass, jewelry, painting, photography, clothing, sculpture and more. While you’re there for the knitting session, take the opportunity to browse local work by Summit County artists.

IF YOU DECIDE TO STAY
In addition to getting the guaranteed lowest rates, booking your lodging here is another way to help sustain art in our local community. A portion of your booking goes back to the Park City Summit County Arts Council.
