Get ready for some creative chaos! The Park City Monster Drawing Rally is back on Thursday, May 31 from 6-9:30pm at the Kimball Art Center (1401 Kearns Blvd., Park City, UT).
Nope, it’s not a sports drink or truck jamboree, Monster Drawing Rally is a live drawing event and party presented by PCSC Arts Council and the Kimball Art Center that allows spectators to spy on the creative process, build relationships with local artists, and grow their art collections.

I drew and painted all the time and became an art major in college.” Married and with a young daughter, Mick was advised by an art professor that switching majors might make it easier to find a job that could support his family. “I followed his advice and switched to science. It’s been wonderful to get back to my art in a serious way.”

Kate Mapp, Adult Services Librarian, and Katrina Kmak, Youth and Spanish Services Librarian, first got the idea to offer virtual reality when they visited the University of Utah Marriott Library’s virtual reality drop in program. After taking a few turns on the virtual reality headset, Mapp and Kmak were sold and started making plans on how they could bring VR to the Park City Library.

All of us make suggestions, edit, and dream up story lines but Tom does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to the stage play.”

The Earth Month Network recently published an article stating that “people from all age groups and backgrounds have one common thread to share: with all the advancements over the years many are still living in the dark as to our total environment; lacking simple awareness of issues and a direction to take. This is in part due to the increase in population density, industrialization, climate change, and apathy.”
Organizations and individuals around the world are spreading Earth Month knowledge and awareness through activism initiatives and educational opportunities. Our own Park City Film Series is screening two films this month to celebrate Earth Month and raise awareness about environmental sustainability.
Read MorePark City Council hosted a Social Equity Innovation Challenge during their retreat in March. The challenge invited city staffers to come up with innovative ideas for a social equity project that is not currently funded. $50,000 was budgeted to fund the top ideas that will fill a need in the community. There were 13 total proposals submitted to the challenge.
The two winning ideas were presented by Katrina Kmak, Youth & Spanish Services Librarian at the Park City Library. Both proposals focused on literary arts and the latino community.
Read MoreThe Book to Film Club is the brainchild of Library Director, Daniel Compton and Kimball Junction Branch Manager Joe Frazier. It was started in February 2014. Compton and Frazier had been trying to host a book club for about a year, but it had been unsuccessful. Eventually, they pitched the idea of a a Book to Film Club, in which participants would first read the book on their own, then come together a the Summit County Library Kimball Junction Branch to watch the movie and discuss the story. The club has been a “great success” since, with 10-20 participants each month.

Scott Zuckerman was mentored for three semesters by Frank McCourt, author of Angela's Ashes, at Stuyvesant High School. "He was a wonderful teacher. Colorful. Memorable. When I write, I can still hear his voice in the background as he looks over my shoulder." McCourt was among the first to encourage Scott to continue his writing, but then a medical career got in the way.
