Live music and outdoors concerts are cornerstones of a great Park City summer. Both residents and visitors alike look forward to grabbing a blanket and a few friends to enjoy the many musical opportunities around town. In that tradition, this summer marks the 15th year in a row that Park City Institute (PCI) presents its outdoor concert series, the St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights. This year comes with a twist however. After learning late last year that Deer Valley wasn’t going to renew PCI’s contract to hold the concerts at the resort, there was a scramble to select and secure a new venue for this summer’s great lineup.

Local singer/songwriter/musician, Elizabeth Hareza, is taking her music on the road again. As a duo project in 2017, English & Hareza did a two month tour of Europe, performing nearly every day in cities across The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Austria, Scotland and England. Aaron English, a singer songwriter from Seattle, WA, had already planned the tour and invited Elizabeth to join in.

Film and music go hand in hand. The essence and mood of a scene in a film can be made with music (think the two terrifying notes in JAWS, Rocky’s pump-up music during his famous workout montage, or the simple image of John Cusack in Say Anything holding up a boombox blaring ‘In Your Eyes’ by Peter Gabriel). The music in these scenes made them iconic, and will forever be associated with these films.
That being said, the Sundance Film Festival does not ignore the importance of music. The Festival offers an array creative experiences throughout the 10 day event, many of them being performances. Every year the music scene is quality, and one company makes the scene especially interesting by bringing in the sound of Nashville alternative music into the mix. An array of artists, musicians and songwriters will showcase their talents, and this year, local Summit County musicians are also given an opportunity to get involved.

‘Tis the season to sing! Park City Singers have begun weekly rehearsals for holiday concerts that take place this upcoming holiday season on December 10th and 16th.
Park City Singers community choir brings together all people who love to sing. In many communities, a church choir is the only option for participating in choral music as an adult. Park City Singers of 45 to 60 members unites a variety of faiths, occupations, cultural backgrounds, and ages ranging from 13 - 83. Choristers improve their vocal skills in a non-competitive, friendly atmosphere. Park City Singers includes members from Snyderville Basin as well as nearby communities in Summit and Wasatch Counties.

Summit County's Kimball Junction Transit Center has been busy with activity over the last several weeks as local artist Kylie Millward has been finishing up her work on the Kimball brand upright piano. Kylie has painted the old player piano with folksy scenes of Utah wildlife, including a skunk, elk, snake, beaver, and mountain goat, as well as a few hidden artistic surprises such as a bear catching a fish.

Those attending Mountain Town Music's July 5th Wednesday concert at Deer Valley were treated to a real bonus. The opening act, ONE VOICE Children's Choir, originated from a group of children who sang at the 2002 Winter Olympics under the direction of Masa Fukuda and were so powerfully impacted by the experience they asked to continue to sing together.

The remodel of the Park City Library, created a wonderful new indoor facility and an awesome outdoor patio used for a multitude of activities including the newest venue for music in our community. Kate Mapp, Adult Services Librarian explains, “The 'Music on the Patio' series is a partnership between Park City Library and Mountain Town Music. It's funded by the Friends of the Park City Library and Park City Coffee Roaster (who operates our coffee shop in the library). Our vision is for the library to become the community’s living room of knowledge, opportunity, and innovation. Just as we are incorporating the visual arts into our library space we wanted to include the musical arts and the patio seemed like the perfect space.” The concerts occur on Wednesdays from 10:30 am to 1 pm and will be a great spot for a picnic or a brown bag lunch!

Bring your best goggle tan and rock out! Park City Mountain will host its annual après ski Spring Gruv Concert Series at the base of its two mountain villages. Mixing a great day of skiing with methodical melodies in the mountains, the Concert Series is every Saturday through April 16 at 3 p.m. at both the Canyons Village base and PayDay Plaza Patio of Legacy Lodge at Park City Mountain.
